I was recently over at the stunning Askham Hall near Penrith, Cumbria for Sumita and Chris’ special day. This charming grade II listed barn has been expertly converted into an award winning wedding venue, and it truly shows it’s class throughout!
I met up with Sumita and the bridesmaids in the morning as the drinks were in full flow. We were all looking forward to the days event as Sumita and her sister sat in the light of the window to have her make-up applied. It wasn’t long until I was walking down to the barn ceremony hall to capture the rustic set-up ready for the couple to exchange their vows. Chris and the boys were all nervously waiting outside the barn under their umbrellas as I greeted them before the service. After catching up with the groom and his men, I headed back to the bridal suite for a couple of quick portraits. The rooms at Askham Hall are beautiful with traditional windows allowing natural pockets of light to enter the room, it really is a perfect setting for such a special day.

Rustic Barn Wedding Ceremony

It wasn’t before long that the bridal party headed down the grand staircase. This resplendent staircase is lined with sumptuously coloured coats-of-arms as Sumita and her brother walked arm in arm down towards the ceremony barn. I captured the bride and her bridal party walking across to the barn before taking my pew in the gallery of the hall as I awaited for the processional to begin. The barn ceremony room works really well with large windows allowing the light to illuminate the venue and a viewing gallery behind the registrar to allow for wide angle photographs.

The ceremony itself was full of moments, from laughter to emotional tears, it was a pleasure to capture the service play out while I documented it all on camera. It wasn’t long before the nuptials had come to an end. As soon as vows were exchanged Chris and Sumita went in for their first kiss and there was a really intimate moment where Chris kissed Sumita on the cheek while friends and family all congratulated the two of them.

Confetti and Bhangra dancing

Straight after the ceremony we headed over to the main hall where the wedding party proceeded to cover the newly wedded couple with rose tips confetti which resulted in some natural, candid moments captured on camera. We then effortlessly put together some group portraits before the bride and groom had a free rein to wander the vibrant gardens of this resplendent wedding venue. This allowed me to capture some truly intimate moments between the newlyweds as we slowly strolled through the hall’s grounds. It wasn’t long before we were back in the converted barn ready for the wedding breakfast and drinks reception.

The speeches were absolutely brilliant with Chris opening and thanking everybody for attending. He soon had everybody in stitches with his jokes and stag do reviews, resulting in some authentic candid moments of laughter captured.

Once the speeches had been spoken, we were soon into bhangra dancing to celebrate into the night. Sumita’s bridesmaids had rehearsed a special choreographed event for them to watch which was great to photograph. This was then followed by two professional bhangra dancers who had the entire wedding party up on their feet and their arms in the air as they danced the night away!

I had a great time photographing Sumita and Chris’ wedding here at Askham Hall. If you like my style of photography and are currently looking for a wedding photographer, please feel free to drop me a message.
